Head of GDPML, meeting with HM Ambassador in Tirana

On 2 September 2014, Mr. Genti Gazheli - Director of the General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering (GDPML) and senior officials of the Directorate held a meeting with the HM Ambassador in Tirana Mr. Nicholas Cannon. At this meeting Mr. Gazheli presented the work done this year by the Directorate with an emphasis on its role as the Financial Intelligence Unit in Albania for collection, analysis and dissemination of information for the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism to the competent agencies within the country as well as international cooperation with other Financial Intelligence Units.

Several issues were discussed during the meeting such as the current cooperation with the UK National Crime Agency, the temporary measures taken by DPPP for blocking suspicious transactions, overseeing of the subjects of the law, the FIU cooperation with the state institutions and particularly the Prosecutor General's Office, Albanian State Police and the National Intelligence Service, the impact of international developments to the agencies' work, the measures for a more effective control of the cross-border flows and performance rankings of Albania in documents published by Special Group for Financial Action.

This meeting will serve to further consolidate the relations of our countries' agencies concerning the fight against organized crime and financing of terrorism, and will be followed by specific activities that will be organized for this purpose in the future.
